Damien Johnson feels his side are getting heavily punished for their mistakes after a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur Under-23s.

Rovers are winless from their opening seven games, but have played well in stages, with three draws to their name so far.

They conceded another early goal, going 1-0 down after just four minutes thanks to Shayon Harrison's strike, before the striker added to his tally later in the half.

Dan Butterworth pulled a goal back for Rovers, after his equaliser in the draw at Swansea City in the previous game.

Brad Lyons and Stefan Mols then both had chances to level the scores but Paris Maghoma added a third for the visitors just before the break.

And Johnson told the club website: “Frustration comes from the goals we conceded as we spoke about not giving them anything. Mistakes ended up costing us for all the goals. The lads need to learn from that.

“You get punished the higher up the leagues you go. Teams have to earn goals and earn opportunities but at the minute they are not having to do that.

“Tottenham are a decent side and one that reacted well after a disappointing result last time out. We have to show that same determination to get back on track.

“Within two minutes we had a chance to go 2-2 just before half time and they then go up the other end and score.

“Those are the fine margins. We weren't as clinical or as tight at the back and the third goal kills us really.

“Our decision making wasn't as good as Tottenham's, who were decisive. The (third) goal took the wind out of our sails.

“We need to capitalise when our opportunities come in future and make sure we're a lot tighter at the back.”
