BEN Mee admits reaching a century of Premier League appearances for Burnley is something he didn't expect when he made the move to Turf Moor.

The 29-year-old has become the second Claret to reach 100 Premier League games for the club, following in the footsteps of Ashley Barnes.

Mee brought up his milestone against Manchester United and he's now made 257 appearances in total for Burnley since initially making a loan move to the club ahead of the 2011/12 season, with the switch from Manchester City made permanent midway through that season.

Making the move to the Clarets has certainly proved worthwhile for Mee, who has been a key figure in the club's rise under Sean Dyche.

"It’s nice to get that amount of games in. From the first game I played in the Premier League, I think I have improved a lot and getting that time on the pitch is vital for any player,” he said.

"You never know how your path is going to go but I have been lucky enough to stay here and make it here in the Premier League. It definitely shows it was a worthwhile move for me.

"When I moved here if you had said I would be playing 100 games in the Premier League I would have taken that all day long and hopefully there are many more to come in the next few years.

“You are always looking forward and ahead to keep improving and playing games.”

Mee’s century of appearances has been marked by the presentation of a commemorative medal from the Premier League and sponsors Cadbury.

The central defender will add to his haul as well having signed a new three-year deal in the summer, ending speculation over his future with his previous contract having less than 12 months remaining on it.

Mee has been delighted to play a part in the club's success in recent seasons and he wants to continue doing that.

“I have enjoyed myself here and want to continue doing that,” he said.

“I think I have been part of the success this club has been having and to play a bit of a part in that has been fantastic.

“It’s an important period in this club’s history, I guess. It’s nice to be involved and I want to be involved in it a bit more.”
