SEAN Dyche was pleased to see some positive signs from Steven Defour on his return to first-team action.

The Clarets boss said Defour was 'chomping at the bit' to get back involved after eight months and the 30-year-old came through 70 minutes of the Carabao Cup defeat to Burton Albion on Tuesday night.

Dyche said the Belgian midfielder could have completed the full game, but Burnley are still being cautious with his return.

"Steven was getting his way back to full fitness out there and he handled it well," Dyche said.

"We only took him off as a precaution, he probably could have played on and finished the 90 minutes but we've got to be careful because he's been out for a long period.

"There were good signs from him and there's Robbie Brady behind that who got another workload in with the reserve side this week.

"He's slightly behind Steven but we've seen on Tuesday that Steven is chomping at the bit and wants to get back out there playing. There were pockets of real quality and he'll obviously get fitter and stronger. We're looking forward to that."
