I KNEW it! As soon as I said I was worried, I knew we’d start hitting top form.

I know, as our former boss Stan Ternant used to say, that one swan doesn’t make a summer but the emphatic 4-0 win over a very decent Bournemouth side at the weekend was certainly a step in the right direction.

Boss Sean Dyche only made a couple of tweaks to the starting XI but it seemed to really unlock the side as a whole.

Matej Vydra made an instant impact with a goal and a performance which hinted at even better things to come.

Playing in the hole behind Sam Vokes he really gave the Bournemouth midfield and defence something to think about and that in turn allowed Aaron Lennon – who capped a very good performance with a goal – and the returning JBG the freedom to roam.

There was an intensity to our play that has been lacking so far this campaign and even though the two late goals from Ashley Barnes did add a flattering tint to the scoreline, it was much more of what we expect from a Dyche side.

I did feel a little sorry for Eddie Howe’s team though. Anyone reading the scoreline would have expected a poor performance from the Cherries but it really wasn’t. They’ve made a decent start to the season and they looked strong again.

Howe bemoaned some of the decision-making in the final third but in another game they could have gone back to the south coast with some kind of reward.

We have to build on that momentum now with the trip to Cardiff City on Sunday.

The Welsh club haven’t enjoyed a successful return to the top flight so far and, while I certainly expect them to be better than they were against Manchester City last week, I still think we should have enough to come home with the points.
