Chorley Women 5

Farsley Celtic Ladies 0

SCARLETT Smith stunned Farsley Celtic with a four-goal salvo as Chorley Women booked their place in the SSE Women’s FA Cup third qualifying round.

The Magpies will host Crewe Alexandra Ladies on Sunday, October 7 at Victory Park as they proved to just too good for Celtic.

And they will fancy their chances of progressing further having defeated Crewe 3-1 in the league only last week.

The Magpies made two changes from that Crewe game with Kerry Nickson and Smith returning to the starting XI

It took just eight minutes for the home side to take the lead when Rebecca Kemp’s corner was tapped home from close range by Smith.

The centre forward made it 2-0 on the half hour mark when left back Rachel Wood produced a defence-splitting pass for Smith to fire beyond the keeper from 10 yards.

Skipper Laura Walker had a chance for a third just before the break but her penalty, after Smith was fouled by the keeper, went high and wide.

But within 10 minutes of the restart, Smith completed her her hat-trick when she raced on to a fine ball from Chloe Wild to finish with ease.

The same combination produced Chorley’s fourth as Wild marauded down the right and crossed for Smith to nod home from close range before Kemp completed the scoring.

Full back, Jan Mitchell, said: “It’s a great win and we’re really happy to be in the next round of the cup.

“We’re really pleased with the result, but we probably just need to work on a few things ahead of next weekend’s game at Newcastle.”

Chorley: Rachel Darbyshire; Janet Mitchell (Rachel Ainscow, 67), Kerry Nickson (Saskia Bowes, 67), Megan Searson, Lisa Topping, Rebecca Kemp, Grace Vella, Scarlett Smith, Rachel Wood, Chloe Wild, Laura Walker (Mel Ball, 56).
