CLITHEROE are into the second round of the Lancashire Challenge Trophy thanks to a 3-0 win over Atherton LR last night.

The Blues got off to the perfect start when an Atherton player put through his own net inside the first minute.

However, Lee Ashforth’s side had to wait until the final 10 minutes to seal victory against the struggling Hallmark Security League Division One side. Antoine Recizac made it 2-0 in the 84th minute before Jonah Gosling grabbed a third in stoppage time for the Evo-Stik outfit.

Padiham, took their league form in to the cup as they sealed a 2-0 win at Squires Gate.

Liam O’Neill fired the Storks ahead with a 13th minute penalty and grabbed his and Padiham’s second a minute in to the second half.

Elsewhere, Colne came out on top in their East Lancs derby with AFC Darwen as they sealed an exciting 5-3 victory.

But Nelson are out after they were thumped 5-1 at home by Atherton Collieries.

Meanwhile, Ramsbottom have strengthened their squad with a double defensive capture.

Mark Fell’s men have signed former Accrington Stanley defender Tom Eckersley from Radcliffe Borough while also bringing in former FC United captain Kyle Jacobs who joins from Ashton United.

The Rams were beaten 1-0 in their Evo-Stik West clash against Trafford last night.
