JACK Cork insists he will always remember the 'great nights' Burnley had in Europe after his extra-time heroics secured him the Clarets' player of the month award for August.

Cork scored crucial goals in the Turf Moor second legs against Aberdeen and Istanbul Basaksehir to keep Burnley's European journey alive, before the Clarets were beaten in the play-off round by Olympiakos.

The 29-year-old headed the goal that broke Aberdeen’s resistance in extra-time in the second qualifying round as Burnley ran out 4-2 aggregate winners on their return to the European stage, before coming off the bench to fire home the winner in the third qualifying round against the Turkish Super Lig side.

“They were great nights and something we will always remember,” Cork said.

“They were two big wins against decent sides and it was nice to give the supporters something to enjoy after waiting so long to see us play in Europe.

“This is always a special award to win and thanks to the fans who voted for me.”

Cork topped a poll of supporters’ votes via the club website and a winner will be selected at random from those who voted to receive two match-day tickets and a signed replica shirt, as well as the chance to present the LaBa 360 trophy to the England international before an up-coming game.

Today Cork will hope for a September impact as Burnley seek their first Premier League win of the season, with Bournemouth the visitors to Turf Moor.

The Clarets sit bottom of the table after five games, with just one point, but the squad is virtually unchanged from the side that finished seventh last season and Cork insists momentum can turn quickly.

“We have got the same core of players we had last year and that same team got us to seventh in the league by doing what we’re good at,” he added.

“We’ve got to stick at it and hopefully when that first win comes and we get those points on the board we can take the momentum and push on.

“Look at West Ham. They had a win last weekend and they look a completely different team.

“All of a sudden from being a team with no wins and second from bottom of the table, they are moving up and looking to start a positive season.

“We’ve got three games coming up now, with two of them at home, and it’s is a good chance to get some points on the board.

“Coming to Turf Moor we know it’s a tough place for people and we need to take advantage.”
