STANLEY midfielder Sam Finley is targeting a first clean sheet of the season today - after admitting the Reds' habit of conceding first was irritating boss John Coleman.

Coleman's side have gone behind in seven of their eight League One games so far this season, but they have come back to claim at least a point in six of them and remain unbeaten since the opening day.

The 1-1 draw at Fleetwood last weekend was the fourth successive game to finish by that scoreline, and Finley is hoping for a change of script against AFC Wimbledon at the Wham Stadium.

"Conceding first is definitely playing on the gaffer’s mind,” said Finley. “He is really frustrated by it as he said Accrington won a lot of games 1-0 last season and it’s a change for him, one that he doesn’t like.

“We are coming back, which is a positive, but we know we need to keep the first clean sheet of the season and also get our first win at home.

“We are saying it before every game but we have been solid in defence, it’s just been set pieces or silly goals.

“Most of the drawn games we have had this season, we could have won and, while we are in tenth place in the league, which isn’t bad, we could be a lot further up if we had got the points we felt we deserved.

“We have been playing better away from home and getting the wins so I suppose if you win your away games and draw your homes games, it is a good return, but that’s not what’s wanted for the fans or for ourselves. We want the Wham Stadium to be a fortress, hopefully starting tomorrow.

“Soon the games start coming thick and fast – Tuesday-Saturday – and I like that. If we can get into a winning run, we can move further up the table.”
