PREVIOUS experience of guiding Burnley out of a winless run can help given Sean Dyche a 'better understanding' of how to stop the current rot.

The Clarets have just one point from their first five games this season and are on a 10 game winless run in the top flight, stretching back to the end of last season.

This is the third time Dyche's Burnley side have gone at least 10 games without a win in the Premier League. At the start of the 2014/15 season they didn't win until their 11th game, while a run of 11 without a win last season ended with a 2-1 success against Everton at the start of March.

"It gives you a better understanding, a more balanced understanding," Dyche said of how those previous runs will help now.

"It doesn’t guarantee you come out of it, we have to earn that right.

"I understand the process, how the team works, the logic against the outside non-logic, the media view, the fan views, it gives you a slightly better chance because you know some of the things you need to do."

After the 1-0 defeat at Wolves last weekend, a fourth successive reverse for the Clarets, Dyche said his side were stuck in a 'fog' that they needed to navigate out of.

He expanded on that theme this week and said his players had to get used to handling the success of last season, when they finished seventh in the Premier League.

And he compared the fog that surrounds them to now to the feeling following relegation in 2014/15, when Burnley started the Championship season slowly before recovering to storm to the title.

"It’s an outside fog. The last time we had it was the build-up to the season after we came down, and there was an oddness, the players know what they’re doing but can’t quite find the rhythm," he said.

"I couldn’t think of a better word than fog, it’s sort of a hangover but there’s no hangover because we finished seventh in the Premier League.

"Success is a really important thing to handle. To finish seventh is a big marker. That can bring a fog because there’s something new and different.

"There’s a big spell of not being underdogs and now we are. The success we’ve had needs handling with emotional intelligence. There’s a truth line. That adds into that fog if you like."
