We asked our Rovers fans' jury what they made of Tony Mowbray's firs half substitution in the draw at Derby County.

Panic or pragmatic? Managers are paid to make decisions and this was a difficult one. He had to do something to stem the tide of attacks coming from a Derby team who tactically were outplaying Rovers.

Whether Conway was the right player to make way and whether he should have been in the team at all in that position is very much a discussion point.

As feared, the manager is worrying more about the opposition than maximising the strengths of his own team, particularly away from home.

But a point would have been acceptable to many fans before the game began.

EVERY manager sets a team out that they think will bring home the three points but there's a multitude of factors that affect this, no less the set up and team selection of the opposition.

For whatever reason the tactics or team selection were ineffective against Derby. Tony Mowbray was right to act before it was too late and his substitution changed the pattern of the game.

Of course, there's 'what ifs' - the starting XI may have sneaked a goal or settled into the game but the opening 32 minutes suggested otherwise and 30 plus minutes is hardly a knee jerk reaction.

IT'S never nice for a player to be hauled off before half-time in a tactical switch and I fear we could have seen the last of Craig Conway in a Rovers shirt, as he moves further down the pecking order. But the substitution had to be made to avoid defeat.

It was an onslaught by Derby in the first-half and with no one to hold the ball up in their half, it just kept coming back.

Tony Mowbray realised he had made a mistake playing Adam Armstrong as the lone striker and Danny Graham needed to come on. Conway was not in the game and looked the obvious player to make way.

It wasn't a surprise to see Graham on the bench after he played 90 minutes three days earlier, but he put a another good shift in for the remaining hour at Pride Park.

Ultimately the change worked and Rovers held out for a very solid point against a good Derby side. Another tough away game at Stoke awaits, so Mowbray needs to get his tactics spot on from the outset this time.
