JAMES Tarkowski hailed 'terrific' Joe Hart after another man of the match display in defeat at Wolves, but admitted the goalkeeper needed help from those in front of him as Burnley look to get back on track.

Hart was once again in fine form at Molineux and but for the 75-cap England international's saves the 1-0 defeat could have been much worse.

The 31-year is proving a shrewd addition after arriving from Manchester City in the summer and at the moment his form is keeping him ahead of Tom Heaton.

Hart has certainly been given the opportunity to impress in recent weeks, with the Clarets facing 76 shots on their goal in the last three Premier League outings, something Tarkowski believes has to be put right.

"Joe has worked hard in the last few games and he's been terrific. The goalkeeper is there to stop the ball from going in the net and he's doing that for us," he said.

"We need to help him out a bit more and restrict the amount of shots on goal. It's something that we need to work on.

"He's fitted in really well and I hope he's enjoying his time on a day-to-day basis but the points and the performances are just as important as that. He'll be wanting to keep some more clean sheets, as we all are, then we can win some matches."

Hart will face competition from Heaton and then Nick Pope in the New Year for the right to be Burnley's No. 1, but his current form could also see him force his way back into England contention.

"Joe has been around the England set up for a very long time, he's just missed out on the last few camps," Tarkowski said.

"I don't pick the squad so I can't decide if he deserves to be there but I think Joe has been terrific since he's come to us and I'm sure he'll be hoping to get back involved."

The Clarets have now conceded 10 goals in five Premier League games this season, despite keeping a clean sheet on the opening weekend at Southampton.

That point at St Mary's is all they have to show for their efforts so far and with West Ham winning at Everton on Sunday they have sunk to the bottom of the Premier League table.

The next chance to collect a first win of the season comes at Turf Moor on Saturday against Bournemouth and while the situation isn't desperate just yet, Tarkowski admits the Clarets need to turn their form around sooner rather than later.

"It's not a case of it being the last game of the season where we need a win or else we're going down, it's not that desperate, but obviously we need to start getting points on the board," he said.

"We don't want it to get to a stage where we're getting towards the end of the season and we're scrapping for points. We need to turn it around and we're looking forward to the next game so we can try and do that.

"The simple fact of the matter is that we're conceding goals and we're not scoring them. We need to start keeping more clean sheets and we need to start sticking the ball in the back of the net.

"The sooner we start doing that the better but we're a good, honest, hard-working group so we'll figure out the problems and hopefully we'll come out of the next game with something positive."
