YOU could be forgiven for having a sense of deja-vu watching Accrington Stanley at the moment.

For the fourth match in a row the Reds drew 1-1. For the seventh time in eight League One games they conceded the first goal, and for the seventh time in a row they avoided defeat.

This time it was Sean McConville who provided the equaliser, driving home a loose ball midway through the second half after Cian Bolger had headed Fleetwood into the lead eight minutes before the break.

The home side’s goal came against the run of play in a first half which Stanley had the better of without creating too many clear cut chances.

Joey Barton’s men improved after the interval but, as we should know by now, this Stanley team know the script.

And John Coleman’s men duly levelled thanks to McConville’s finish.

The result keeps the Reds unbeaten since the opening day of the season and the challenge for Coleman and his players is to turn these draws into wins.

But for now, they can be satisfied with a start which has yielded 11 points from eight games.

Stanley made one change to the side which drew 1-1 with Burton Albion last time out, with the fit-again Michael Ihiekwe replacing Ross Sykes in the middle of the back four.

After an even start in the Highbury sunshine it was the visitors who settled first.

Stanley carved Fleetwood open twice in quick succession. First Callum Johnson robbed Ashley Hunter and delivered a low cross which drifted across the six-yard box with no-one able to apply a finishing touch. Then Nick Anderton’s deep cross was met by Sam Finely but his cross shot was knocked behind for a corner.

The visitors were in their grove and Finley saw an effort blocked before Jordan Clark dragged a shot wide of the near post.

Fleetwood had created little in the opening 20 minutes but the home side carved out a good chance when Chris Long got in behind the Stanley defence but Connor Ripley was out quickly to deny the striker at the near post.

At the other end Billy Kee saw two shots blocked before Clark curled an effort straight at Alex Cairns from a well worked corner.

Stanley had been the brighter but it was the hosts who took the lead. Johnson conceded a cheap free kick in the corner and Ash Hunter’s excellent cross was headed in by Cian Bolger.

The goal knocked the sting out of the away team and the break came at a good time for John Coleman’s men.

Regrouped, Stanley had the first chance of the second half when a neat passing move created an opportunity for Clark but he dragged a 20-yard effort wide.

At the other end Hunter saw a shot blocked before the same man brought a superb one handed stop from Connor Ripley with a right foot drive after the visitors failed to clear their lines.

Fleetwood were on top and Long sprung the offside trap before beating Mark Hughes but his low delivery was just about dealt with by the visiting defence.

Stanley reacted by making a double change with midfield pair Conneely and Brown replaced by Offrande Zanzala and Daniel Barlaser with Finley, who moments earlier should have done better after muscling his way into the box only to shoot straight at Cairns, dropping back into midfield.

The changes paid off as within 10 minutes the visitors were level. Finley’s long throw was not dealt with by the home defence and McConville was on hand to drive home the loose ball.

Both sides took the leveller as their cue to go and win the game. Stanley came close to completing the comeback when sub Barlaser’s fierce drive - after another Finley long throw - was well kept out by Cairns. The Fleetwood stopper then did well to keep out Anderton’s back post volley.

The home side were still very much in it and with seven minutes to play James Wallace thundered a header over from a right wing corner while Long was denied by a sliding Hughes challenge in the final minute of normal time.

In the end neither team could muster a winner and it was a case of same again for Stanley.
