CLITHEROE marksman Joel Byrom is dreaming of steering the Blues into the FA Cup first round proper - but first he aims to gun down rivals Chorley.

The East Lancashire neighbours collide at Chorley's Victory Park in tomorrow's eagerly anticpated FA Cup first qualifying round showdown.

With £2,250 prize money for the winning side, there is much more at stake than just local bragging rights.

And Byrom, who smashed two goals in Clitheroe's 3-2 win over St Helens Town in the preliminary round, is determined to kill off the Magpies challenge.

It is set to be a battle of two former Blackburn Rovers academy youngsters, with striker Byrom coming up against Chorley centre-back Stuart Howson.

"It's the biggest cup comeptition in the world," said Byrom. "I really enjoy playing in the FA Cup.

"It would be a dream for me to see us through to the first round proper.

"Obviously, we'd have to win a few games to get that far, but we'll take each game as it comes.

"But if we can beat Chorley, and then get a home tie in the next round, we'll have a chance.

"It should be a great atmosphere at Chorley."

Byrom is hoping the FA Cup can provide some respite for Clitheroe, who have yet to register a win in UniBond Division One North.

But the Blues were on top in Tuesday's match against FC United, which was level at 1-1 before floodlight failure led to the game's abaondment.

He added: "Our cup results have been better than those in the league.

"We've just got to get away from our league results and sometimes the FA Cup can do that.

"We played well against FC United and that has lifted everyone a little bit.

"In the league, we've only played well in fits and starts, for 45 minutes here and there. But we need to play well for 90 minutes.

"We haven't quite gelled as a team yet and that's something we must do."

Blues chairman Carl Garner admits the prize money for tomorrow's winners is a huge incentive.

He said: "It's financially a massive game for both sides. It's a game that we feel we can win."

Clitheroe are hoping that striker Ryan Fisher can overcome an ankle injury in time to face Chorley.

For the Magpies, James Holden, Stephen Burke and Martin Clark are all back in contention.

With home advantage, Chorley manager Gerry Luczka is hopeful of dumping out their local rivals.

"It's an important game for us. A lot of people are really excited about it," said Luczka "It's the magic of the FA Cup, we've got home advabatage, we are playing against our local rivals and there should be a big gate, so let's hope it's a great game of football.

"League form goes out of the window on occasions like this. It's a one-off tie.

"It's whoever wants it most on the day.

"Financially, it's also imporant for the club too, because every penny counts.

"The FA Cup is one avenue where you can generate extra income, so the longer we can stay in it, the better it will be for the club financially.

"There is a little bit of pressure, therefore, to make sure we go through."
