The Tour of Britain is heading our way tomorrow, giving plenty of opportunities for local cycling fans to watch Britain's biggest bike race go by.

Leaving Liverpool at 10.15am, stage five heads through Southport and into East Lancashire, via Walton-le-Dale, along the A59 past Samlesbury BAE (12.05pm) to turn left at Oaks Bar through Ribchester and Longridge (12.20pm) on its way to finish in Kendal at around 14.15 pm.

Two new club records were set by Clayton Velo riders on Saturday, with Peter Greenwood of Burnley slicing a minute off his own best to return 3 hours 58 minutes 32 seconds in a 100-mile time trial in Yorkshire.

At the same time, but on the road just south of Kendal, Dave Metcalfe of Barnoldswick was shaving 17 seconds off his own recently set record with another 30 mph plus ride of 19 minutes 39 seconds.

Egerton's 72-year-old veteran Frank Kerry set a provisional National Veterans record for his age with his 22m-23s ride.

On the same afternoon near Derby, Dave Brown of the North Lancs Road Club was finishing fifth in the National Veterans 30 mile time trial Championship with a time of 1h 10m 12 - and at the age of 69, giving him 28m 04s better than the standard time for his age.

The only other East Lancs entry was from Clitheroe's Neil Fort, who clocked a personal best of 1h 12m 09s at age 61.

The final midweek event in the Rossendale programme for 2007 was their hill climb from Bacup to the top of Deerplay Moor.

Adam Pinder, 17, of Great Harwood and Blackburn and District CTC, trounced the field with an excellent time of eight minutes 18 seconds for the two mile climb. Another younger rider, Simon Wilson of Worsthorne, was second in 8-25, John Hartley third in 9-28 and Derek Schofield and Roy Flanagan tying for fourth in 9-36.

On Sunday, Pinder was again the winner in the long running Beard Cup hill-climb for CTC members at Diggle near Oldham.

Blackburn and District CTC took four of the first five places.
