I’M NOT sure about everyone else but I’m still not sure I understand all this Nation’s League competition nonsense.

I said last week that I was looking forward to the international break for once but after sitting through England’s defeat to Spain on Saturday, I’ve changed my mind again!

The sooner the Premier League returns the better!

By the time you read this, James Tarkowski may have earned his second England cap and that might have helped my mood a little.

Hopefully that break from Burnley duty – and the poor start to the season – will give him a bit of a boost heading into this weekend’s game at Wolves.

Elsewhere, Stephen Ward picked up an injury on Irish duty but it’s been all quiet on the international front other than that.

Closer to home we’ve not seen any of the injured trio of Robbie Brady, JBG or Steven Defour return to action although to be fair to Defour he has spent much of the last week thanking people for the use of a car, a new hat and various other bits on social media.

Oh, and he says he hopes to be back shortly which is massively good news!

Despite not much happening at the Turf over the last couple of weeks – and being the eternal optimist that I am – I can sense things turning around pretty quickly once we get back to business.

Getting those three back are part of that and as soon as that happens I am sure we will start seeing performances at the level we’ve come to expect from this set of lads.

Finally, just a word for Michael Duff who has left Turf Moor to head back to former club Cheltenham Town as manager.

He’s been a fantastic servant for the Clarets and probably the best value signing in my time of watching Burnley.

He won three promotions to the top flight and was always such a reliable player for us.

His work with the youth set-up has clearly been recognised and he deserves his shot at management.

I’d hope the club have some kind of succession plan in place and that he, Joey Barton and probably Graham Alexander feature somewhere in the thinking.

I think Sean Dyche will be around for some time to come but if those three can push on and get the experience then any one of them could be back at the Turf and in the home dugout.
