Jamie Vermiglio has welcomed home advantage as Chorley look to progress in the FA Cup.

However, the Magpies will have to wait to learn their FA Cup second qualifying round opponents after yesterday’s draw.

Vermiglio’s side, riding high at the top of the National League North table, will host either Parkgate or Leek Town for a place in the final qualifying round.

North East Counties Division One side Parkgate face Leek, of the Evo-Stik West, on Wednesday with a place against the Magpies on offer.

And with an unblemished home record so far, Vermiglio said: “A home draw is always advantageous.

“We are reliant on some additional funding, we don’t budget for it, so the more we can get is a bonus and an FA Cup run also helps to build excitement, as it showed last year when we reached the first round proper.

“We will have to maintain our standards and prepare properly and approach it the same as we will any game.

“We will go and watch the match on Wednesday and do our due diligence as we would for any team.”

Colne, the other East Lancashire representative left in the competition, will need to pull off another scalp if they are to progress further. But Steve Cunningham’s side will be in confident mood after seeing off Evo-Stik Premier Division side Hyde United.

The Reds ran out 2-0 winners and remain unbeaten this season and face an FC United of Manchester side who, although two divisions higher, sit bottom of the National League North.

Ties will be played on the weekend of September 22.

Vermiglio is hoping a cup run can aid Chorley’s promotion bid, adding: “I think as a club, certainly since I have been here, the Lancashire Cup apart, we haven’t fared very well in the cups.

“Last year was a real bonus and it brought a real unity to the team with everyone talking about it.

“Our target will be to try and reach the first round proper and then to try and get the best draw possible.

“Our focus this season, and our main aim, is to get promotion, but a good cup run can help with that momentum and can be a boost to the revenue that we can invest in the team and help us to move forward.

“Unlike other managers, the only matches I don’t mind losing are pre-season friendlies, so long as we get what we want out of them.

“In the cup competitions it’s important to get that winning mentality and gain confidence from winning matches.

“The cup matches, without being disrespectful to the other clubs, can be a chance to use the squad and give some lads a chance to show what they can do and it’s up to them to try and force their way in to the team.”

Chorley moved seven points clear at the weekend after a 5-0 win at struggling Ashton United.

Vermiglio’s men have dropped just two points in their opening nine fixtures, but are without a game in midweek,

In the Evo-Stik West, Colne, second only on goal difference, travel to mid-table Droylsden, Ramsbottom United host Kendal Town, while Clitheroe travel to Atherton Collieries.

In the Hallmark Security League, Barnoldswick will look to make it four straight wins as they host Squires Gate. Padiham are without a midweek fixture.

In Division One, AFC Darwen will be hoping to return to winning ways as they host struggling Atherton LR tomorrow.

Nelson are on the road as they travel to Preston Heys. Bacup Borough are without a game.
