JOHN Coleman has urged Accrington Stanley to maintain their level of performance from last week’s draw with Scunthorpe United, but take their chances.

The Reds take on Burton Albion at the Wham Stadium tomorrow hoping to secure a first League One home win at the fourth attempt.

They came close to taking three points at home to the Iron last weekend, having dominated the first half and bossed possession and chances overall.

Stanley had 18 shots, including six on target, but were able to score only once. And that was just after Scunthorpe had taken a surprise lead.

Captain Seamus Conneely hit back 90 seconds later to rescue a point, with both goals scored in the final 10 minutes.

But Coleman is determined to focus on the positives of the performance, and not the frustrations of the result, as they seek to celebrate a Wham Stadium win.

“I think the longer it goes on the harder it gets and the more frustrating it gets,” said the Stanley boss of the wait for three points at home.

“But if we can turn in the performance that we did on Saturday I don’t think we’ll be too far away.

“The only negative was that we didn’t put the ball in the net and you don’t do that on purpose.”

Coleman added: “That’s probably the best we’ve played in a long time. We sat the players down and let them watch the first half again and see how well we played.

“We’ve just got to try to replicate the performance and the goals will come.”

Midfielder Conneely’s equaliser made him the seventh goalscorer already this season, with five of the Reds’ nine league goals scored by midfielders.

“I’ve always said you’ve got to share your goals out and the midfield didn’t chip in anywhere near as much as they should last season,” said Coleman.

“If you take Sean McConville and Jordan Clark out of the midfield, because they are very much attackers as well, from centre midfield we didn’t get enough goals and that’s something we have to try to improve on.”
