CLITHEROE booked their place in the FA Cup first qualifying round thanks to a late winner away at Sunderland RCA but Ramsbottom United suffered penalty shoot out heartbreak.

The Rams drew 0-0 at home to Kidsgrove Athletic in their preliminary round replay but were beaten 3-2 on penalties with Dean Stott missing the vital kick.

Mark Fell’s men had missed a penalty in normal time when Jerome Wright fired wide from 12 yards.

It was happier news for Clitheroe after Jacob Gregory struck an 88th minute winner to see off Sunderland RCA 3-2.

The initial clash ended 6-6 10 days ago and there were plenty more goals in Tuesday’s replay.

The home side twice led but the Blues pegged them back thanks to Antoine Recizac and Ben Matthews before Gregory struck.

Clitheroe will now take on Mossley in the next round on Saturday at Shawbridge while the club also bank £2,890 in prize money for their victory.

Meanwhile, Barnoldswick Town’s impressive form continued as they secured a third straight win.

Barlick ran out 3-0 winners at Hanley Town in the Hallmark Security League Premier Division to climb to sixth in the table ahead of Saturday’s home game with City of Liverpool.

Jack Coop, Rhain Kellawell and Mark Threlfall were on target for Matt Barnes’ side.

In the First Division North, Yayha Saeed hit a hat-trick as AFC Darwen came from a goal down to beat Chadderton 5-1 at the Anchor Ground.

All the goals came in the second half. After Devon Matthews put the visitors ahead, Elliot Pond levelled before Saeed hit a treble and Pond added a fifth in the final minute.

The Salmoners have also won three on the spin and are fourth in the table ahead of a home game with Carlisle on Saturday.
