ACCRINGTON Stanley have swooped for their second signing of the day with striker Luke Charman joining on loan from Newcastle United.

The 20-year-old played twice for the Magpies U21s in the Football League Trophy last season and was the top scorer for the club's Under-23 side last term.

He follows teammate Daniel Barlaser to the Wham Stadium after the midfielder completed his move from the North East earlier on deadline day.

Charman, who has two goals in three games for the Magpies in this season’s Premier League 2 campaign, said: "I’m excited. I’m a bit shocked because it’s come a bit out of the blue as I only found out this morning, but I’m very excited.

“I’m hoping that I can score plenty of goals, help the team to do well, and try to make a name for myself.

“I am someone who’s going to work hard for the team, do a lot of running and put a shift in.”

Charman, who has not signed in time to feature for Stanley in their League One game with Scunthorpe United on Saturday, admitted having Barlaser already in the Wham Stadium changing room would help him settle.

"He is one of my good friends,” said Charman. “I think it will help me having at least one person there that I know.

“He’s already been in touch to tell me that the lads are really sound.”
