Peter Whittingham has left Rovers via mutual consent.

The 33-year-old joined on a two-year deal last summer but has struggled to feature in 2018.

His one appearance in a matchday squad this season was the Carabao Cup win at Carlisle United in which he was a second half substitute in the 5-1 win.

The last of the midfielder’s 20 league appearances for Rovers came in the penultimate game of the season at Charlton.

Whittingham made 24 appearances in all for Rovers, his last start coming in the 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe United on December 30.

The former Cardiff City man, who turns 34 next week, is now free to find a new club and is the second player to leave Rovers via mutual consent today after Paul Caddis.
