ASSISTANT coach James Neil believes Blackburn Hawks have made a quality addition with the capture of Danielius Nomanovas.

The Lithuanian centre has put pen to paper on a deal with the club ahead of the start of the NIHL Moralee Conference season next week.

The 22-year-old playmaker has played in his homeland, Belarus and Holland and brings international experience to the Hawks ranks and will fill the void left by Robin Kovar who was due to join the Hawks but pulled out due to family illness.

Neil said: “We are delighted to get a player of the ability and skill of Danielius, you only have to watch some of his highlights and see what great hands and play-making abilities he has.

“He is still young but also has plenty of experience to help the team improve as a whole.

“We are really excited to have a player of Danielius calibre, it’s been a tough week after the news Robin won’t be joining us next year, but we have been patient and found a quality replacement.

The 22-year-old admitted he can’t wait to get started with his new side.

He said: “It’s a pleasure to join the Blackburn Hawks. I can’t wait to start and contribute to the team as much as I can. And achieve great results together with the club.”

The Hawks have also swooped for Deeside youngster Ross Kennedy and netminder Harrison Walker.

The versatile 20-year-old Kennedy can play in defence or further forward and said: “I am excited for what challenges are ahead for the upcoming season.

“I feel welcomed into the team already. With lots of hard work and tough games to look forward to, it will definitely be a great experience.”

Neil added: “Ross is a good young all-around player who can play both forward and defence.

He has patience and composure on the puck and can make smart plays all over the ice, which is needed now the league has improved once again.

“I am sure Ross will be a great addition to the team and we look forward to working with him over the next season.”

Harrison, 16, spent last season with Bradford Bulldogs juniors.

The Hawks open their season at home to Hull Pirates on Sunday week (5.30pm) before welcoming Solway Sharks for an NIHL North Cup clash on September 9.
