Rovers face two home games in the space of four days and boss Tony Mowbray believes they will both present difficult challenges.

Reading arrive at Ewood Park tomorrow still looking for their first points of the season after three consecutive defeats.

Brentford, the visitors on Saturday, hand have seven points, and eight goals, to their name already ahead of their trip to Aston Villa tomorrow night.

And Mowbray has warned his side not to read too much in to Reading’s slow start, and is pleased with consecutive Ewood fixtures given their Wednesday-Saturday schedule.

“For us the good thing is we have two games at home and we’re not sat on a coach for four or five hours trying to get somewhere and sleeping in a bed that’s not your normally bed and then getting up to try and find a performance,” Mowbray said. “We can focus up and rest well.

“Two games at home is an opportunity for us but they are both very difficult games for us for different reasons.

“One (Reading) is scrapping for a result but teams can go a few weeks without winning but then find a performance because footballers at this level are proud individuals and they will be ready for the next challenge.

“Brentford are a team flying high this season, have some very talented players, play a ball retention system that’s hard to play against and that will be a big test for us. But hopefully it’s one we can go in to on the back of a positive result.”

Rovers recorded their first victory of the season when they returned from Hull City with all three points last time out.

That followed back-to-back draws with Ipswich Town and Millwall to open the Championship campaign.

And, while delighted with their first victory since promotion, Mowbray said he felt his side had begun the season well even before the weekend win.

He added: “I was encouraged. I thought we should have won the game at Ipswich, but what’s important is to get the first three points so I don’t keep getting asked ‘when are the three points coming?’

“Games can go by, you’ve played well, been solid and deserved more than we’ve got, so it’s important to get the three points and we’re pleased with that.

“We’ll now focus on getting three points in the next one and the next one.”
