BURNLEY boss Steve Cotterill is set to play his big guns for tonight's Carling Cup clash against Oldham Athletic.

The Clarets boss made nine changes to the starting line-up against Grimsby Town in the first round.

But on the back of Saturday's cancellation of the home match with Queen's Park Rangers, Cotterill is set to start with the bulk of his first team players.

He said: "It may be worth playing the team we were going to play on Saturday, tonight."

The Burnley manager is also taking into account tomorrow night's reserve team game at home to Blackpool (at Accrington Stanley's Fraser Eagle Stadium).

"It's not necessarily about the fringe players," he said. "In the week we did it (at Grimsby) we didn't have a reserve game that week. Tomorrow we've got a reserve game so we might have to mix and match a little bit.

"We will pay Oldham the utmost respect. We always do, whoever we play.

"We'll be just looking forward to having a game now."

Cotterill also has injuries to at least two players to take into account before naming his line-up.

Captain Steven Caldwell looks to have fully recovered from the hamstring strain which kept him out of the trips to Grimsby and Scunthorpe as he completed a full training session on Saturday, but summer signings Gabor Kiraly and Besart Berisha did not take part.

Kiraly is struggling with a dead-leg he sustained at Scunthorpe, while Berisha sustained a knee problem while on international duty with Albania last week, where he scored his second international goal in the 3-0 friendly win against Malta.

"Gabor would have been struggling for tonight's game. He took quite a hefty whack last week," said Cotterill.

"It looks a bit innocuous when you see it on the television but it's quite a bad knock he's had.

"His leg is very bruised and swollen and we need to get that swelling down before he can do anything."

Of Berisha, who is yet to make his Burnley debut, Cotterill added: "He tweaked his knee playing for Albania the other night.

"He's going to take a little time to recover from that one."
