BURNLEY are set to seal a £15million deal for Middlesbrough centre back Ben Gibson this weekend.

The 25-year-old missed Boro's Championship opener at Millwall today and has instead travelled to East Lancashire as he prepares to seal a return to the Premier League.

The Clarets failed in two bids for Gibson before agreeing a deal with the Teessiders on Friday that will match the club record fee they paid Leeds for Chris Wood last summer.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw at The Den, Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis confirmed the move was close and said the Clarets were getting a 'top, top player'.

“He's going, it's agreed, it's done and we want to thank Ben, an absolutely fantastic professional," said Pulis.

“In the six months I've had at this football club he's as good a professional as I've ever worked with and I spoke to Sean Dyche and Dychey's got a real, top, top player.”

On the time frame of the transfer, Pulis added: "I think it'll go through over the weekend, I think it's all done, I think everybody has agreed it and it's just a case of him doing his medical and then that will be it."
