CLARETS reporter Tyrone Marshall hands out the ratings for Burnley's 1-1 draw with Aberdeen in the Europa League second qualifying round first leg.

Nick Pope 6

Short-lived return to the side having only been back in pre-season training for two days. Injury looked a serious one and it’s a cruel blow.

Matt Lowton 6

Tested by McGinn’s trickery as Aberdeen came forward early on. Little impact going forward as he struggled with his delivery.

James Tarkowski 5

Can’t be blamed for the soft penalty but was rattled by Cosgrove’s unorthodox approach. Sloppy in possession as well.

Ben Mee 6

A nervy moment when he went down injured. Not his finest game, nearly caught cold for Mackey-Steven’s headed chance.

Stephen Ward 6

Pick of the back four, certainly defensively, but they didn’t look the solid and settled unit they so often do.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson 7

Bright in the first half especially. Showed good feet to keep possession on a couple of occasions and had a zip to his passing.

Jack Cork 7

Eventually managed to get a grip on the game but found it difficult early on in a frantic beginning.

Ashley Westwood 6

Put under pressure in the first half by Aberdeen’s pressing game but stuck to his task doggedly.

Aaron Lennon 6

Saw a lot of the ball and found space, but lacking end product in the first half with one weak shot and several low crosses that just missed their target.

Jeff Hendrick 6

Dropped a lot deeper than usual to get on the ball and strengthen the Clarets midfield, but little link-up with Wood.

Chris Wood 6

Won the first header to set up Vokes’ goal but was a frustrating night until then. One long-range drive over but looked better with Vokes alongside him.

Subs

Anders Lindegaard for Pope (14) 7

First game in almost two years having conceded 11 in his last two competitive fixtures, but made a big second half save from Mackay-Steven and looked assured.

Sam Vokes for Hendrick (67) 8 (Man of the Match)

His introduction changed the game. Immediately unsettled McKenna and Devlin and won all his aerial duels. Showed great strength, skill and composure for the goal, turning his markers before lashing home. A special moment and he may have played himself into the starting XI for the return leg.
