Rovers are unlikely to begin their next round of contract negotiations until later this year after agreeing seven extensions this summer.

Bradley Dack became the latest to commit his future to Rovers last week, joining Danny Graham, Craig Conway, Darragh Lenihan, Derrick Williams, Richie Smallwood and Scott Wharton in signing extended terms since promotion from League One.

Ewood chief Tony Mowbray was keen to reward his squad with new deals on the back of a return to the Championship.

Fourteen players are now under contract until at least 2020, though a number of first team regulars see deals expire next summer.

They include Charlie Mulgrew and Corry Evans, but with the pair two of the club’s higher earners, Mowbray doesn’t anticipate talks to begin until later in the year.

“I’m always analysing that,” Mowbray said of contract negotiations. “As the season rolls forward we have to constantly look at where our squad is and what you need to do.

“We have some big players in the final year of their contract and for varying reasons we are not in a position to do anything on those deals because of the situation of those deals and the current cost.

“As we get towards Christmas we will assess everything again and hopefully we’re doing well and everyone wants to be involved in what we’re trying to achieve and let’s see. I have no real concerns.

“It’s important to look after and make the players feel part of what we’re trying to build and work hard to add to the quality we’ve got so we can become a stronger outfit this year.”

Dack, the League One player of the year for 2017/18, signed a new three-year deal on Friday to reflect the 24-year-old’s standing within the Rovers squad.

Mowbray added: “I’m delighted Bradley has signed, and that’s it all done and dusted.

“As with the other lads who have done exceptionally well, I felt Bradley deserved a new contract, even though he only signed a year ago. I wanted to make sure he gets what he deserves.

“He’s an important player in our team and I think we were just trying to bring him in line with the other players.”

The task for Dack is to replicate his League One form when he makes his Championship debut next month.

Dack is confident he can rise to the challenge and Mowbray said: “He’s a vital player for us and everyone can see that.

“He trains with a smile on his face every day and he’s great to be around.

“I knew how technically gifted he was before he arrived here. He can drive a team forward on his own at times with his enthusiasm for the game.

“We needed to make sure he adapted to playing with some bigger personalities and players and he’s done that exceptionally well.”
