Darwen recovered from Saturday's thumping to Kirkham & Wesham with a 5-1 romp over Ashton Town last night in North West Counties League Division Two, with new signing Ben Stanford grabbing a hat-rick.
Following a nervous start, the home team opened the scoring when a free-kick floated into the Ashton penalty area was headed down and into the net by Ricky Fogarty.
The same player also scored Darwen's fifth goal, chipping over the Ashton keeper.
