OLDHAM boss Richie Wellens credited Rovers for their second half comeback to earn a point in a game he felt was ‘a great advert for League One football’.

Wellens’ side took a 2-0 lead in to the break courtesy of a fine double from loan striker Duckens Nazon.

But Rovers hit back in the second period and levelled through a Charlie Mulgrew free-kick and first for the club from Adam Armstrong.

Wilfriend Moimbe was shown a second yellow card with eight minutes to go, but the visitors held on to take a share of the spoils.

And Wellens said: “It was a great advert for League One football as both teams played really well and played some good football.

“There was energy, passion, commitment and real quality from both teams. If you had asked me before the game if I would have taken a point, then I would.

“Along with Wigan, I think they are the best team in the league. The defining part of the game was the free kick which goes into the top corner.

“You have to give them credit for coming back into the game but I thought all game we were really good.

“They went for it and caused us problems but I thought everyone was outstanding.”

The result leaves Oldham fourth bottom in League One with 14 games of the season remaining.

And after a win over Bradford City seven days earlier, Wellens told his club’s official website: “It keeps a little bit of momentum going.

“If you concede in the last minute it is a sickener but we didn’t and it’s a really good point so we take confidence going into the game on Tuesday night.”

On the backing of 2,294 away supporters he added: “Credit to the club.

“The percentage of our away support to our home support is one of the best in the country.

“It makes me proud that the supporters come here and support the club that way because the atmosphere was brilliant.

“The players take confidence from that when players are singing their names.”
