ACCRINGTON Stanley played out another goalless draw in the second game of their pre-season tour of Scotland as they were held by Arbroath tonight.

Reds manager John Coleman named a strong Stanley side in a fiery encounter where no quarter was given or asked by both teams.

New signings Roscoe D'Sane and Lee McEvilly took their place up front for the visitors with Paul Carden, Graham Branch, Mark Roberts and John Miles also featuring from the kick off.

But it was the Scottish Second Division part-timers who created the first clear-cut chance when impressive striker Bryan Scott latched onto a Barry Sellars pass.

His shot beat Stanley's Scottish keeper Kenny Arthur, but it came back off the post.

Stanley hit back and McEvilly threatened with a shot from distance, although Scott Morrison saved comfortably.

Miles was next to have a go, but his effort was cleared off the line.

But the Reds were on the back-foot minutes later when dangerman Scott beat the Stanley offside trap only to see Arthur race off his line and save superbly.

After the break, it was Arbroath again who piled on the pressure with the lively Scott instrumental.

He was given too much room in the Stanley defence, but Arthur was alert to the danger and came to the Reds' rescue.

On 65 minutes Rommy Boco tried his luck with a long-range strike that was tipped over by Morrison.

But the home side remained a constant threat and, after a well taken free kick, Sellars fired just over.

Nonetheless, Stanley should have taken the lead when substitute Paul Mullin crossed for Roberts, who could only watch as his shot was cleared off the line by Arbroath defender Jamie Bishop.

At the end even the introduction of Leighton McGivern couldn't stir Stanley into getting that all important goal.

Stanley: Arthur, Edwards, Williams, Roberts, Whalley, Carden (Procter 75), Boco, D'Sane (McGivern 83), McEvilly (Mullin 68), Miles, Branch. Subs not used: Cavanagh, Richardson
