NELSON'S Jonny Lang is set to battle it out with the very best this weekend in the Spa 24 hours race.

Racing with his old team, Trackspeed, Lang will be joined by the team owner and two other drivers to compete at the historic circuit through the famous Ardennes Forest.

This will be the 26-year-old's first experience of night racing and the longest endurance event of his career.

And he admitted he couldn't wait to get started.

He said: "A number of legends will be competing at the same time, including former F1 drivers Karl Wendlinger, Pedro Lamy and Mika Salo, so I know I've a lot to learn, especially in these night stages, but to finish at all after 24 hours continuous racing would be great for my CV and anything more than that would be an undoubted bonus."

The Spa circuit is considered by many to be one of the most challenging race tracks in the world, mainly due to its fast and tortuous nature through the mountains. It features several of the most demanding sections of race track anywhere including the famous Eau Rouge complex and the flat out Blanchimont corner.

Meanwhile, there was further exciting news for Lang when he was invited to test an Aston Martin DBR9R at Silverstone by the Barwell Team.

And it was an experience he thoroughly enjoyed.

He said: "I have always wanted to drive the GT1 Aston, particularly after a successful test in the Aston Martin DBRS9 GT3 car in Spain early this season."

Lang completed 28 laps in very mixed weather conditions in the cool of the morning and set competitive times both in the wet and dry.

After the test, Lang was taken to the Prodrive factory at Banbury where the car is built and actually was able to have a good look at the Le Mans winning car.
