DO you want Rovers to extend Marvin Emnes’ spell at Ewood Park or are there better striking options out there?

Kelvin Wilkins

MARVIN Emnes has a huge amount of quality and you can see he has Premier League class.

He has a good touch and is positive in possession, with some inventive tricks up his sleeve.

He has been criticised for his lack of goals and can go missing in matches but he always poses a danger.

For the cut-price wage we’re paying I’d certainly keep him, although were Swansea to demand a larger cut, as it appears they are doing, then I’d look elsewhere as for a team in relegation trouble.

Our greatest need is a central midfielder who is imposing, confident in possession and keen to get beyond the strikers.

WE don’t know what other options there may be in terms of transfer window signings, do we?

But plainly the owners are not splashing the cash or Emnes would probably already have had his loan extended.

Unfortunately, Marvin has not lived up to his early promise and though obviously talented, his consistency and tenacity might be questioned.

However, beggars can’t always be choosers so I would extend the loan and hope he hasn’t flattered to deceive.

Marvin Emnes got off to a great start in a Rovers shirt, scoring in three consecutive games.

Two of those goals were crucial as they helped to secure back-to-back wins against Rotherham United and Derby County.

Since then, his impact has diminished and Danny Graham and Sam Gallagher have been the preferred pairing up front.

Emnes is different to the other strikers that we have.

He is a skilful player who often likes to slow the game down and play it at his own pace, but can create a chance from nothing.

It is strength in numbers and more depth that Rovers need. If Emnes does not re-sign, he will be a big miss.

There are other striking options, but unless they are available on loan or on a free transfer, there are unlikely to sign.

But a striker is not the main priority at the moment. Rovers need to concentrate on getting a couple of defenders through the door.
