OWEN Coyle wants to extend Marvin Emnes’ stay at Blackburn Rovers in January, whether it be on loan or as a permanent signing.

The striker’s six-month loan spell from Swansea ends on January 15. Coyle revealed talks are yet to take place with the Swans over the Dutchman’s future, but is hopeful that a deal can be struck to keep him at Ewood.

“I would love to have him here,” said the Rovers boss. “I’ve told Marvin and his representatives that. There’s obviously dialogue that needs to take place between ourselves and Swansea, but I would love that to be the case.

“I think he’s a player that the fans love and identify him as a matchwinner and an entertainer.

“Marvin has indicated he enjoys it here, but those talks need to continue to take place for that to happen. I would love to have him here in whatever capacity as he’s a wonderful player.

“He’s a big part of what we’re doing, and he’s got a manager that believes and trusts in him and I think he enjoys that.”

Emnes, 28, has scored three times for Roverssince joining on loan from Swansea, where his deal expires next summer. The Dutchman has and impressed as an impact sub in the last two games after returning from injury, with Coyle more than satisfied with his striking options.

He added: “The only reason he has been a substitute is because of his injury,” he added.“Marvin Emnes has been outstanding for us since he came to the club but (Danny) Graham and (Sam) Gallagher have been doing well together.“It’s great to have those forward players who can create and score goals, you can never have enough goalscorers at the club, so it’s good to have that armoury at our disposal.

“Even if we’re not at our maximum we’re still capable of scoring goals and winning games.”
