BEN Marshall has been nominated for the Championship player-of-the-year prize at the MBNA Northwest Football Awards.
The Blackburn Rovers winger will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of former team-mate Markus Olsson who won the award at last year’s event.

At one stage this summer Marshall looked set to follow Olsson, who moved to Derby County in January, out of the Ewood Park exit door after turning down the offer of a new contract.
But Rovers boss Owen Coyle has revealed the club has now reopened negotiations with the former England Under-21 international’s representatives.
Burnley striker Andre Gray, the reigning English Football League Championship player of the year, and Preston North End defender Greg Cunningham will rival Marshall for the honour.
Another Rovers midfielder, Darragh Lenihan, has also been nominated for a prize at the MBNA Northwest Football Awards.
Lenihan is up the rising star of the year award along with Everton’s Joe Williams, Liverpool’s Emre Can, Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Burnley’s Michael Keane, Preston’s Alan Browne, Blackpool’s Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bury’s Anthony Dudley, Crewe Alexandra’s Callum Ainley, Fleetwood Town’s Ash Hunter, Oldham Athletic’s George Edmundson, Rochdale’s Callum Camps, Wigan Athletic’s Max Power, Accrington Stanley’s Shay McCartan, Carlisle United’s Mark Gillespie, Morecambe’s Tom Barkhuizen, Altrincham’s Sam Heathcote, Barrow AFC’s Jordan Williams, Chester FC’s Sam Hughes, Macclesfield Town’s Danny Rowe, and Tranmere Rovers’ Adam Mekki.
Stanley striker Billy Kee has been nominated for the League Two player of the year award.

The awards winners will be announced at a black tie ceremony at the Point at Old Trafford cricket ground on Monday, November 14.
