MIKEY Worswick will achieve one his dreams when he fights for a European kick boxing belt on Saturday.

The 23-year-old from Accrington challenges Spain's Jose Angel Hoffeter at Audley Sports Centre in Blackburn and he is hoping victory will be a stepping stone to a world title shot later in the year.

Worswick, who has 14 major titles to his name - including British and Commonwealth crowns - has had to bide his time for this moment but now he is ready for his date with destiny.

"This is going to be the biggest year of my career," said the former Rhyddings High School pupil. "This is everything I have been working for over the last 10 years and I am aiming to end it as a world champion.

"I've said all along that I want to be the best in the world and it has been a long time coming. But hopefully this is the year it all comes together."

A late change in opponent hasn't hampered Worswick's preparations and coach Jason Curtis, who runs Kokoro Kick Boxing Club in Accrington, says there will be a full house to cheer him on.

Worswick's challenge for the vacant ISKA Full Contact title will top the bill at an event that will also include 18 other junior and senior bouts.

"The show has been a sell out for a long time now and even a late change in opponent hasn't dampened the excitement," said Curtis. "We were badly let down by Ryan Lyall from Perth who pulled out late on but thankfully Hoffeter accepting the challenge at late notice and he comes here on the back of a good win."

As well as Worswick's top of the bill clash, there will be two junior national titles and professional K1 area title fight as well.

Curtis added: "The event will include fighters aged eight to 48 and my guys have put in a tremendous amount of work in as usual and are all ready to perform. We have a few first timers in both boxing and kickboxing, two talented junior fighters up for national titles, a professional k1 area title fight and male and female area boxing titles.

"It would have been an impossibility to put a title of this calibre on a relatively small local show without the financial support of sponsors Decon Ltd, Clitheroe."
