BURNLEY midfielder Scott Arfield has earned his maiden international call-up after being named in the Canada squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Mexico.

The Clarets ace opted to play for Canada, for who he qualifies through is Toronto-born father, earlier this season after being overlooked by his native Scotland.

And the 26-year-old, who represented Scotland at Under-19, Under-21 and B levels, is now set to make his Canada debut on Friday, March 25, in Vancouver when Mexico visit. The two sides will meet again on Tuesday, March 29, in Mexico City.

Canada and Mexico are in a four-team qualifying group along with Honduras and El Salvador with the top two qualifying for the next stage on the road to the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

The Canadians are two points behind this month's opponents after two matches.
