YOUNG player of the year Chris McCann admits he would have no qualms about becoming Burnley's Mr Versatile'.

The 19-year-old has played in no less than four different positions this season. And he believes that his ability to adapt is not only good for the team, but for his own development, as he bids to become a more regular fixture in manager Steve Cotterill's first team plans.

"I don't really mind where I play, just as long as I'm playing. All I want to do is play football," said McCann, who pipped Kyle Lafferty to scoop the club's official young player of the year award for the second successive season.

"I've been a bit versatile this season, playing left back, centre back, centre midfield and left wing.

"It helps the team and adds another position to my game, which is helpful because I can play anywhere and I would be grateful to get a game in any of those positions."

McCann featured in 38 of Burnley's 46 Championship games in the campaign just ended, making 24 starts. But the Dubliner is aiming to increase that total next term as he targets taking the next step in his Turf Moor development.

And he believes that consistency will be key in helping him achieve his goal.

"I've had a very up and down season," said McCann.

"I've been in and out of the team and haven't seemed to have performed consistently over the whole season.

"My performances have been a bit erratic.

"I'm happy with the way things are going at the moment, but I know I can build on it again next year, and I know I can do better with certain aspects of my game."
