A bullish Mark Hughes has warned potential suitors to forget any thoughts of trying to sign Benni McCarthy and Jason Roberts this summer, which will be music to the ears of all Blackburn fans.

McCarthy has attracted attention from several different clubs following an impressive debut season in English football, but Hughes has allayed fears about a Craig Bellamy-style clause existing in the player's contract, which would allow him to leave for a certain amount.

Keen to draw a line under all speculation, Hughes said: "Benni's not going to be sold and there's no clauses in his contract.

"There will always be people checking (if he's available) but he's not available.

"Full stop.

"I'm sure that interest has been registered, not directly but indirectly, but then I get that every summer.

"I had to knock back interest in all my good players last summer and I'm sure I will have to again.

"But nobody left last year apart from Craig Bellamy, and we couldn't do anything about that one."

Hughes has also sent out the same message regarding Roberts, who is reported to be a £3 million summer target for Celtic.

"He's very much part of my plans for next season.

"It's been frustrating for Jason and he's of the mind now that he doesn't want the season to finish because he's playing exceptionally well.

"The partnership he has with Benni, both on and off the field, is great and next season I think we'll see even more goals from him.

"He's looking strong and powerful and a real handful for defenders at the moment."

Hughes will look to add several new faces of his own over the summer months, but he has stressed it is equally important to keep the key members of his current squad at Ewood for the foreseeable future.

He added: "We are not in a position to spend vast amounts of money on transfer fees but what we are not is a selling club.

"We don't have to sell anybody. We are a top 10, or top eight, Premier League club and that has an attraction in itself."
