AS it's the time of year when awards are being dished out, this column sees no reason why it shouldn't join in the fun.

So here goes.

Player of the Season: Andy Gray.

Never mind that he missed over two months of the campaign. Without his 14 goals, Burnley would be joining Leeds United in League One next term.

No coincidence that without him in the team, we nose-dived. Honorable mentions to Messrs Elliott and Duff.

Goal of the Season: Wade Elliott v Sunderland.

McVeigh's goal against Cardiff may have been a better team goal, but it was bundled over the line. Give me the spectacular any day. Like a 30-yard screamer leaving the keeper clutching at air.

Performance of the Season: Easy, the 3-2 victory over PNE.

It doesn't get much better than a last-minute winner in a derby - particularly when the Preston fans were laughing at us having thrown away a two-goal lead.

Young Player of the Season: Chris McCann.

Centre back, left-back, left-wing, central midfield. The club's new Mr Versatile let no one down this term. And he popped up with a handful of vital goals.

High of the Season: Same as Performance of the Season, After that display. we felt invincible. We felt like we might be going somewhere. Ah well.

Low of the Season: Runner-up: Southend 1 Burnley 0. The clear winner is Burnley 0 Luton 0.

Easily the most passionless and insipid game of football seen on the Turf in many a season.

Many fans feared our card was marked after this game, as we seemed to be sleepwalking towards relegation. Luckily, our next opponents were a criminally disinterested Plymouth.

Disappointment of the Season: Alan Mahon.

The Irishman has been sold to us as many things; "The jewel in the crown" and a footballer who "will make us play more football". Not from the treatment room he won't.

Most Improved Player of the Season: Wade Elliott.

They say footballers hit their peak around 28 or 29. Elliott is evidence of that. He is easily Burnley's biggest attacking threat in terms of creativity. He may lack the pace of Steve Jones, yet the quality of his service is undeniable.

Disagree with any of the above? Then let me know. Thanks for reading the column through the course of the season. Enjoy the summer.
