BRENT Peters has set his sights on promotion glory after a red-hot September for Bacup Borough.

Peters’ side, relegated last season, struggled to make head way early on, but five wins in a row last month has seen them climb into the top six of the NWCL First Division.

Peters said: “We’ve had a horrendous couple of years, but I believe we’ve got a side that can go really close this season.

“After every grey storm there’s a silver lining, and hopefully this season it will be our turn to enjoy a bit of success.

“Promotion? Yes. Why not? I’m blessed with the calibre of players I have here.

“Lads like Kelvin Trippier, Kieran’s brother, and, like a lot of the boys, he doesn’t want to go anywhere else because the spirit is so special.

“I’ve got players here who could play in the National Conference and perhaps higher, but they don’t want to leave Bacup because they enjoy it so much.”

Peters was never a manager to hide his light under a bushel and, as ever, one of non-league’s biggest characters has worked tirelessly to re-build Bacup’s squad this term.

He added: “It is not easy running a non-league club I can tell you. We’ve taken it on the chin, but we’ve brushed ourselves down and started again.

“But I’m massively proud of my achievements as a manager and I’m determined to get Bacup back to Division One.”

Bacup hit the FA Vase trail tomorrow when they host Hemsworth Miners Welfare, from Pontefract, in the second qualifying round of the competition.

The manager added: “One thing is for sure, we’ll be keeping our feet on the ground in the coming months because there will be setbacks along the way.

“Everybody wrote us off last season, but we nearly clawed a massive deficit back and we could have stopped up on the final weekend if results had gone in our favour.

“But that’s gone now and this season is a new chapter in Bacup Borough’s history and I want to make it a special one.”
