AFC DARWEN boss Neil Prince expressed his delight after his side won 2-0 at Silsden on Tuesday night to move up to 12th in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Darwen had already gone close when Oliver Birchall headed against the bar before Danny Taylor opening the scoring in the fourth minute.

Silsden’s attack was then kept at bay before Connor Gaul netted what proved to be the final goal of the game in the 60th minute.

Prince said: “Everyone put in a shift tonight and we played well with two key figures missing in Paul Coote and Kiel Lonsdale.”

Clitheroe returned to winning ways in Evo-Stik League First Division North with a 4-2 victory at home to Scarborough Athletic.

After going down 5-0 at Warrington Town on Saturday, Blues boss Simon Garner, boosted by the return of David Lynch, Jimmy Heywood and Roberto Bonaminio, certainly got the response he was looking for.

A cool finish from Jonny Hession brought Clitheroe level before Heywood fired in his first goal of the season to put them in front.

And the Blues sealed a victory which moved them up to sixth with further strikes from Scott Bakkor, from the penalty spot, and captain Lynch.

It was a night to forgot, however, for struggling Ramsbottom United With Phil Edghill taking over the Rammy reins, the Evo-Stik League Premier Division basement boys were thrashed 7-1 at high-flying Nantwich Town.

Samuel Grimshaw scored their consolation.

n The draw for the second round of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy has been made.

Holders Chorley will head to Nelson while the team they beat in last season’s final, Clitheroe, will travel to Bacup Borough.
