THERE are still three games left, but I think now's the time to turn attentions to next season and see how Burnley can build over the summer in preparation.

With the points tally of last term matched with the 3-0 win over Norwich City on Tuesday night, the Clarets are on course to accrue the most points in three seasons under manager Steve Cotterill.

And I firmly believe that, with some good additions in the closed season, they can be up there challenging next year.

In my opinion, an out-and-out centre forward should be a top priority. I know, perhaps, it's easier said than done with what's out there and the money they command, but if Paul McVeigh is available, then it would be great to have him back.

Goalscorers have this knack of being in the right place at the right time and McVeigh has shown he is capable of that with the goals he has scored since arriving on loan from Norwich.

He was ineligible to play on Tuesday against his parent club, who I was disappointed with. I know they were without Darren Huckerby but I think they are a better side than what they showed at Turf Moor.

Having said that, it was another good win for Burnley, and great to see both Andy Gray and Ade Akinbiyi on the scoresheet.

It was particularly pleasing for Gray after going so long without a goal, and hopefully there'll be a few more left in him before the season's out.

I thought Eric Djemba-Djemba had a terrific first half and the back four and goalkeeper have been solid as hell. They don't look like conceding many and they controlled Norwich, limiting them to one headed chance which Brian Jensen saved brilliantly, and crucially, with it still being 1-0 at that time.

Their solidity at the back, which has inspired clean sheets in five out of their last six games, has been mammoth in turning Burnley's season around.

It was unfortunate that their copybook was blotted at Elland Road last Saturday, but I anticipated a hard game against Leeds.

I'm in that bracket of people who thinks that they will manage to avoid relegation, and have been for a while.

They're still in the mire but I'm sure their quality will show through and they will get out of it.

As for Burnley, with safety now mathematically secured, it's time to look forward.

Monday night is a chance to impress in front of the Sky cameras against West Brom.

Hopefully that television revenue will be able to be put to good use in the summer.
