BURNLEY striker Andy Gray has revealed he is finally back to his best.

And after netting his first goal in two-and-a-half months against Norwich on Tuesday night he is hoping to end the current campaign on a high and help fire the Clarets towards a promotion push next season.

The Scotland international admits this has been one of the most frustrating seasons of his career after injury curtailed a blistering start, where he topped the Championship scoring charts in the middle of November.

But after rediscovering his goalscoring touch this week he has now set his sights on next season.

He said: "The run we went on, none of us will experience it again hopefully in our careers, it's just one of those terrible, terrible runs and it's lucky we got the points on the board early in the season otherwise we would have been really struggling.

"It's an experience that you've got to draw from and you appreciate what winning's like. I think we probably got a little bit used to it at the start of the season and not winning for so long and then feeling what a win's like again, it's a good feeling.

"I think it was confidence and when that first goal went in, then another one and another one and another one we started playing with a lot of freedom and confidence. It was like a weight had been lifted off our shoulders.

"We want to end the season on a high after the run we've been on, get used to winning football matches again.

"The last three home games we've done very well with 4-0, 2-0 and 3-0 - not conceding a goal and scoring a few goals.

"It's good for the fans as well, it probably gives them a bit of optimism for next season."

Gray revealed it has been quite a slog coming back from his metatarsal injury sustained against Leeds last year and confessed, his return for the Clarets maybe came a little early, although he said he was desperate to help his team-mates in their time of need.

He added: "The run we were on I think I maybe came back a little bit too early but I wanted to get back and play. I wasn't really fit for a good few games so it was hard from the start. But coming back for the Luton game from then onwards my injury's felt fine. I feel nearly 100 per cent now.

"I was still getting quite a bit of pain so the rest that I had in the international break really sort of helped it to heal quite bit. Coming back, I've not had any problems. Touch wood I've felt fine.

"I've played in nearly every game most of my career for most of the season so it's been frustrating but it's nice to be back.

"I've been lucky throughout my career. You've got to expect to get injured but hopefully it evens itself out a little bit.

"It's one of the things that happens in the job and you've just got to get on with it really."
