CLARETS fans lined the road outside Turf Moor to pay their final respects to a football legend.

Applause broke out as Brian Miller's funeral cortege, with a Burnley scarf tied to the top of the hearse, moved slowly through Harry Potts Way.

Clarets fan Jim Duxbury, 65, from the Foulridge area, said: "It was a fitting service and a good chance to say a final goodbye and show respect.

"It's what he deserved. He's been a great servant."

Lifelong Clarets fan Stewart Walsh, 59, who watched the procession with brother Michael, 56, of Bacup, said: "Me and my brother are here because he was part of championship team.

"I thought it was very moving, there were tears in our eyes."

Martin Jones, 38, of Dale Close, said: "I am glad they went slowly through the road. It was fitting end for a legend."

Judith Caine, landlady of the Lounge Pub, on Harry Potts Way, watched the procession from a bedroom window.

She said: "I think there were plenty of people there considering it's a Tuesday morning.

"And it was a good way of letting the fans pay their respects."

The mourners were joined by staff at Burnley Football Club, who were allowed to stop work and say their final goodbyes to Brian.

Receptionist Marie Greenhalgh, 38, a Burnley fan, said: "This is something we always do for club staff.

"I think it went well. The support from the fans was incredible.

"It was really good for them to take time out of their day to come down and pay their respects.

"All these people have taken time out of their day so I think it went really well."
