SIR Bobby Charlton led tributes from the footballing world to Brian Miller.

The testimonials were paid after hundreds gathered to say farewell to Brian at his funeral at St John the Baptist, Padiham.

England and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby said: "Brian was a really nice man and a tough player. I never heard anyone say a bad word about him.

"It was wonderful to see so many people at the service but it was not surprising as he was so well-loved.

"I remember when we were both playing - it was great to see him on the same team. He always had great authority and influence and was a great leader. He was well respected by everybody."

Legendary winger John Connelly, who scored 20 goals in Burnley's Championship-winning season of 1959/60 and went on to be capped for England 10 times, said: "I was very privileged to play in the same team as Brian.

"He was a great example to everyone and was terrific to have in the dressing room, he brought everyone together. He was just so passionate about Burnley."

Martin Dobson, one of Burnley's most elegant players, who also played for his country, said: "I moved to Burnley on a free transfer and really I was a nobody, but Brian had words of encouragement for me as he did for everyone.

"It was so great just to see an international player in the dressing room. I had total respect for him and it made me feel so lucky I had come to play for Burnley when my career was going nowhere.

"He was the sort of player who would never duck a challenge and you knew his heart was in the right place.

"He was Burnley through and through and the fitting send off he has been given shows just what respect he was held in."

Former Burnley MP and chair of the Clarets' Trust Peter Pike said: "The funeral service was a wonderful send-off for a wonderful man."
