Benni McCarthy insists it is imperative Blackburn Rovers finish the season strongly in case the favourites for UEFA Cup spots falter during the final weeks.

"We've just got to pick it up from Sunday's performance and we've got to keep doing well, and pick our performance up from here," said McCarthy.

"If we can play like that in every single game, then we are still in with a massive chance."

Rovers have an early chance to put the events of Sunday behind them when Watford, the other beaten FA Cup semi-finalists, visit Ewood Park in the Premiership tomorrow.

McCarthy scored against the seemingly doomed Hornets when Rovers slipped to a shock 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road in January, and he is keen to rediscover his scoring touch tomorrow, knowing a goal would see him reach 20 for the season.

"That's what I keep striving for; I strive for success," added Rovers' leading scorer.

"Hopefully, there are more quality games ahead for us, and I will try and score as many as I can.

"But more importantly, it's important we win games and keep taking three points every time."
