BEST pals Hayley Hodgkinson and Kirtsy Birks will be flying the flag for the North West after reaching the National Gymnastics championships.

The Burnley teenagers booked their place in the finals in Birmingham at the end of the month after starring in the North West Association Grade Three finals.

Hayley, aged 15, who goes to Hemeldon College, won her age group while 14-year-old Kirsty, who goes to Unity Community College, finished in third place.

Both booked their places in the national finals as did the top four in each age group.

The pair have been members of Blackpool Gymnastics Club for the past four years. They first took up the sport when they were three-years-old when they joined Burnley Gymnastics Club which has since closed down.

The pair took part in the four disciplines of floor, vault, beam and bars. Hayley won on the bars and finished in second place on the beam. Kirsty also enjoyed a first place finish, winning the floor event and finishing third on the bars.
