GEORGE IV kept their Double dream alive after seeing off the Rose and Crown in an energy-sapping final at the Arbories.

Early goals from Andy Ellis and Chris Goss were enough to secure victory - now they will try to topple Rose Grove Unity at the top of the table to complete the job.

Ellis gave George the perfect start when he stabbed home Keiron Carroll's deep free kick at the far post with barely a minute on the clock.

And they were 2-0 up inside 15 minutes when Carroll again supplied the cross which Chris Goss met with a glancing header.

It was a bitter blow for the Rose and Crown whose response from the early setback was positive. Captain Shaun Preston headed Gary Kay's free kick just wide before Daniel Cassidy's skimming header from Dominic McPhail's set piece just missed the target.

And soon after George doubled their lead, the impressive McPhail forced Damian Ellison in to a good save from another well struck free kick.

But George continued to create chances at the other end. John Hutton volleyed wide from the edge of the area, Ellis had a header cleared off the line by McPhail then nodded Shane Waite's hanging cross over the bar when he should have done better.

Both teams continued to create chances after the break although the heat began to take its toil.

Daniel Oldfield had two efforts for Rose and Crown, firing wide when put through by Daniel Hirst then heading straight at Ellison after Joe Garvin lofted the ball in to the area.

At the other end, Jordan Malley saved well to keep out Carroll's low drive.

Ellis had two late chances to extend the league, Malley saving one and shooting the other wide.

But in the end it didn't matter as George secured victory - now they have eyes on the title!
