BLACKBURN secured their promotion play-off place in emphatic style with a 10-try, 72-17 romp against a hapless and already relegated Trafford side.

It was a record league points tally for Blackburn who will now play South Lancs/Cheshire Division One runners-up Leigh for a place in North Two West.

And it ended a scintillating second half of the season for the Ramsgreave Drive side who won 14 of their final 15 fixtures to clinch second place.

However, they had to suffer the sending off of the influential Jordan Pearson who must now wait nervously for the findings of a disciplinary meeting to decide if he will be available for the play off game.

Danny Lambert, Nick Barnes, Pearson, Bleasdale and Barnes again all touched down in the first half with Bleasdale adding two penalties as Blackburn led 39-5 at the break.

In the secod half, Jonny Walmsley, Pearson, Alan Haworth, Marco Vaghetti and Jonny Leach all added tries with Barnes slotting over two conversions.

Blackburn now prepare to go to Leigh on April 28 for the promotion showdown.

Chairman of rugby, Gareth Dyer, said: "Leigh will represent a tough test and they will get our full respect.

"Perhaps it is a bit cruel that its only a one leg game where winner takes all, but having said that it's all about who performs best on the day.

"We will prepare fully and hopefully we can do the business and finish off what has been a good season with promotion."
