JACK Spencer will get the chance to measure himself against the very best when he takes part in the British round of the World Trials Championship.

The promising 23-year-old from Bacup has been selected as a wildcard entry for this weekend's event, which takes place at the Nord Vue in Cumbria.

And Spencer, who rides for Beta UK in the British series, is in good form after picking up two consecutive top ten finishes.

He'll also be on a brand new bike after taking delivery of a Beta 300 from sponsors Sandiford Off Road of Burnley.

"I'm looking forward to getting the chance to show what I can do. There aren't many sports where amateur riders like myself can compete directly against the best in the world," he said.

"I feel like I'm riding well at the moment which gives me confidence, but I'm under no illusions about how tough it is going to be.

"The organisers have also changed some of the sections at Nord Vue, which will make this interesting for everyone.

"We will still be using the quarry sections, so I've spent most of the last two weeks practising at Back Cowm, near Whitworth to prepare."

The Penrith venue has undergone its biggest shake-up since the World Trials paid its first visit in 2009.

Although the quarry remains at the centre of the action, with eight new sections, the organisers will also use nearby Blaze Fell, which will allow more natural sections.

Competitors will ride three laps of 12 sections on Saturday and Sunday, with spectators able to see all the sections.

Reigning world champion Toni Bou arrives in Cumbria this weekend on the back of an amazing 'six of the best' run.

The Repsol Honda rider is unstoppable form, unbeaten in the first three 'double header' rounds of the WTC this year.

The Spaniard leads the championship standings by 28 points with Adam Raga trailing in second place.
