BURNLEY manager Steve Cotterill said he would not blame counterpart Dennis Wise for instructing his players to block Brian Jensen at corners.

The Clarets boss felt his Danish goalkeeper's route to collect Alan Thompson's dangerous delivery, that led to Matt Heath's winner at Elland Road on Saturday, was blocked, preventing him from attempting to claim the ball.

"The keeper got blocked, at the end of the day there's nothing wrong with that, if you block someone and get away with it - that's a good little tactic and would have been something that we would have used in the past so I wouldn't blame Dennis for that," Cotterill said.

"But, yes, he (Jensen) has got blocked. He could have come out and we could have also dealt with it.

"That's the disappointing thing for us really because set plays are something we work very hard on, but today that's undone us."

Cotterill admitted that his players were not as prominent in attack as they have been in their recent revival, most notably against Plymouth, who they smashed four past, and then in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

But he said the Clarets were hampered by a resilient Leeds defence.

"Part of that was decent defending by them but had we played like we did in the second half for 90 minutes then they wouldn't have got anywhere near our goal to score in the first half," Cotterill continued.

"Our final ball - we got around the back of them enough times - whether it be our wide men, our strikers getting in, our fullbacks getting in. We just didn't punish them when we got our chances really."
